| Unlimited UAV Range - Aloft for 5-10 years - It is Possible |
|
Engineers and scientists are rising to the challenge to design and build a UAV, which never needs refueling and can stay aloft for five or more years doing surveillance. There are many different concepts in mind. One would be to make a solar aircraft, of course that would not work in all regions or areas of the world. Another thought is to make a system that takes hydrogen from the air and uses it to run a fuel cell. Still another concept is to have a balloon aircraft that inflates and then rises up, deflates and glides down, then re-inflates to go up, over and over again. There are designs and many attempts at prototypes of all these concepts, will any of them fly off the drawing board or electronic CAD CAM and into the future aviation record books of history? Perhaps, and yet let me explain another concept of mine, an idea I got while discussing this challenge with some Fellows at the Online Think Tank recently. The concept would take advantage of the leakage from the high-tension above ground power lines. The ultra range UAV or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle would charge its ion-lithium batteries by doing
